On September 18, Solvay announced that it will make adjustments to certain product lines at its plant in Bad Wimpfen, Germany. This adjustment will result in about 100 job losses at the facility.
Solvay stated that this adjustment aims to support the company's transformation and ensure the creation of long-term value in a challenging market. Specifically, the company will cease the production of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and all its derivatives, as well as certain inorganic substances, including hydrofluoric acid, by the end of 2026, starting from early 2026. However, other product lines at the Batwinpfen plant will not be affected.
It is worth noting that TFA belongs to the category of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment considers it toxic to the reproductive system, and the German Environment Agency classifies it as a "very persistent and mobile" substance.
At the same time, Solvay also announced an investment to transform the Bad Wimpfen plant into a global center for the production, research, and application of brazing technology sold under the Nocolok brand. The new investment will be used to establish a Nocolok paste and coating factory, and to relocate the Nocolok technology center and production business from Gabsen, Germany to Bad Wimpfen. This move will result in a net reduction of about 40 jobs at the Gabsen plant, which is scheduled to cease operations in 2028.
Solvay added that the company plans to allocate approximately 25 million euros mainly in 2026 for restructuring costs and strategic investments.
