China Chemical Industry News – AkzoNobel recently announced its pivotal role in the successful delivery of the world's first wind-assisted Aframax product tanker, the Bramble Bush. This vessel stands as a benchmark for green technology innovation in the global shipping industry.

Custom-built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), for UK-based Union Maritime Limited, the tanker features approximately 350,000 liters of high-performance marine coatings supplied by AkzoNobel's International Paint brand. Applied comprehensively to all areas, including the underwater hull, topsides, deck, and cargo tanks, these coatings provide essential full-vessel protection and critical technical assurance, enabling this "green vessel" to achieve environmentally friendly and efficient operations.

The Bramble Bush's underwater hull is coated with AkzoNobel's Intercept® 8500 LPP antifouling system. Its unique Lubyon® polymer technology ensures consistent, stable, linear polishing for effective fouling control. This reduces hull resistance during sailing, significantly lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Compliant with International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements, the coating contains no harmful substances like tributyltin (TBT) or Cybutryne, safeguarding the marine ecosystem.

The cargo tanks utilize International Paint's industry-leading Interline® 704 pure epoxy tank coating. Its outstanding resistance to chemical corrosion and oils minimizes contamination risks and ensures the structural integrity of the cargo holds. Critical areas such as the topsides, deck, and ballast tanks are protected by International Paint's versatile pure epoxy primer, Intergard® 7600. Its exceptional abrasion resistance and corrosion protection maintain optimal hull condition and performance, even under harsh climatic conditions, throughout the vessel's service life.
